World Stories...

Some story teach us very important thing, but they can even cheer us up in a moment of need. The great thing is that all the countries in the world have  different one.

This story is from South Africa

The Lion and The Jackal

One day long ago, Jackal was trotting through a narrow, rocky pass in the mountain. He was sniffing the ground trying to find something juicy to eat when he saw movement ahead of him in the pass.
Jackal stopped in his tracks. The mighty Lion was coming straight toward him. Realising that there was no way to escape, Jackal became very frightened. He had played so many tricks on the king of the animals in the past, and he was sure that Lion would take this opportunity to get his revenge. Suddenly Jackal thought of a plan.
"Help! Help!" cried Jackal. He cowered down on the cliff path, looking above at the rocks.
Lion stopped in surprise.
"Help!" Jackal howled, "There is no time to lose! See those huge rocks above us? They are about to fall and we shall both be crushed to death! Oh, mighty Lion, please do something! Save us!" And Jackal cowered with his paws over his head.
Lion looked up, most alarmed. Before he even had a chance to think, Jackal persuaded Lion to put his strong shoulder against the rock and heave.
"Oh, thank you, great King!" yelped Jackal. "I will quickly fetch that log over there to hold the rock, and we will both be saved!"  and with that he bounded out of sight.
So Lion was left all alone to struggle under the weight of the rock in the hot sunshine. We will never know how long he stayed before he realized that this was another trick, but the clever Jackal had once again escaped from the mighty Lion!

Top Gear

This article talks about Top Gear, a program originally viewed in the UK now all over the world, that talks new cars, road safety and sports cars. It began in 1977 made by BBC Birmingham. This show was hosted by Richard Hammond and James May but only became popular when Jeremy Clarkson joined in. He added humor and love for negative viewers of popular cars. Top Gear has been all over the world in the Bolivian rain forest, Iraq war zones and Africa. There has also been celebrities on the show like Tom Cruise, David Soul and many others. I like watching this show, it's very funny, I know nothing about cars but I watch it because of how they make cars sound interesting and some are very beautiful

The 5th of November...

In 1605, a group of disaffected Catholics plotted to assassinate King James I by blowing up the House of Lords. They hoped to restore Protestant England to Catholicism and end the persecution of their faith.
The 'Gunpowder Plot' was foiled at the eleventh hour, an event still celebrated annually on 5 November and named for the most famous of the conspirators - Guy Fawkes Night. But who was Guy Fawkes and what are we remembering?
Bonfire Night, as it was occasionally known, assumed a new fervor during the events leading up to the English Interregnum. Although Royalists disputed their interpretations, Parliamentarians began to uncover or fear new Catholic plots. Preaching before the House of Commons on 5 November 1644, Charles Herle claimed that Papists were tunneling "from Oxford, Rome, Hell, to Westminster, and there to blow up, if possible, the better foundations of your houses, their liberties and privileges". A display in 1647 at Lincoln's Inn Fields commemorated "God's great mercy in delivering this kingdom from the hellish plots of papists", and included fireballs burning in the water (symbolizing a Catholic association with "infernal spirits") and fireboxes, to enact plots against the king. Effigies of Fawkes and the pope were present, the latter represented by Pluto, Roman god of the underworld

There is even a song to celebrate the 5th of November:
Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot;
I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'Twas his intent.
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below.
Poor old England to overthrow.
By God's providence he was catched,
With a dark lantern and burning match

Holloa boys, Holloa boys, let the bells ring
Holloa boys, Holloa boys, God save the King!
Hip hip Hoorah !
Hip hip Hoorah !
A penny loaf to feed ol'Pope,
A farthing cheese to choke him
A pint of beer to rinse it down,
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar,'
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head,
Then we'll say "Ol' Pope is dead."

Now we celebrate the 5th of November by eating:
  • Baked potatoes
    • Sausage rolls
    • Hot dogs and burgers
    • Bangers and mash
    • Potato wedges with sauces or dips
    • Bread baked in the bonfire
    • Any camping food you'd usually shove in the fire (but only in the coals, at the edge!)
    • Chip butties
    • Fish and chips
    • Puddings and sweets of all sorts, from toffee to sticky date pudding (and toffee apples are an easy-to-carry choice for sitting around the bonfire and nibbling)
    • Hearty soups

    Pollution:air, water, land.

Now days on of the most dangerous problem of the society is pollution. The world is in a very critical situation because natural resources are running out, forests are disappearing, the population is growing and air and water are more polluted than ever. There are different types of pollution: air, water, acoustic... Everyday we see that the world is going to disappear. The natural atmosphere changes because of the global warming and increases in the world's temperature is caused by greenhouse effect. So many habitats of species of animals are going to disappear and they are going to extinct. Also the ices are going to melt because of global warming. The Ozone hole, that allows the ultra violet radiation from the sun to reach the earth, so we are exposed to skin cancer. Greenhouse effect, generated from carbon dioxide, produced when fuses are burned. Everyone must respect the environment because when we pollute we kill our self and we kill the world.
